Why translate from the media instead of from an SRT file

An SRT is a lossy snapshot: text chopped into caption-sized lines with line-level timing. Translating that text directly fights the format — translated sentences run longer or shorter than the original lines, so translators re-split them and the timing drifts; context gets cut at line boundaries, so phrases are translated in fragments. Translating the full transcript first, with word-level timestamps underneath, sidesteps all of it: the translation works from complete sentences, and the SRT is generated afterward with timing taken from the source audio itself.

The practical difference: subtitles that stay in sync, read as natural sentences in the target language, and still say who's speaking.

What survives translation — exactly

Speaker labels and timestamps are preserved through translation without modification, so a line attributed to your guest at 14:32 in the English transcript is the same line, same speaker, same time in the Japanese one. Custom spelling lists are honored during translation too: add your product names, people's names, and industry jargon once, and they come through untranslated and correctly spelled in every target language instead of becoming literal-translation casualties.

Ten target languages, six export formats

Translation targets: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Arabic, Hindi, and Korean — from an English source or between any of the supported languages. Every translated transcript downloads in any of six formats: SRT and VTT for subtitles and captions, TXT and DOCX for editing, PDF for sharing, CSV for data workflows. Once a language is translated, repeat downloads are instant — the translation is cached, so grabbing the VTT after the SRT costs nothing.
