Microsoft Teams Transcription

Microsoft Teams can transcribe meetings — in theory. In practice, live transcription requires the right Microsoft 365 licensing tier, has to be enabled by your IT admin, and frequently gets turned off tenant-wide. Even when it works, the export options are limited: a DOCX or VTT file with minimal editing, no AI summaries, and nothing for the meetings where transcription simply wasn't running.

Since Microsoft moved Teams recording storage out of Stream Classic, recordings are ordinary files in Microsoft 365: meetings scheduled in a calendar or started ad-hoc save an MP4 to the "Recordings" folder in the OneDrive of whoever started the recording, and channel meetings save to the Files area of the channel's SharePoint site. Either way, the meeting chat contains a link to the recording. Open it, download the MP4, and you have everything Castmagic needs.
