Drop Audio or Video ➞ Generate the SRT File
Generate an SRT subtitle file from any audio or video. Accurate, automatically timed cues from word-level timestamps — edit the transcript, export the SRT, done.
One Generator for Every SRT You Need
Somewhere right now you need an SRT file: a client wants captions delivered with the edit, a platform requires a subtitle upload, an accessibility requirement just landed, a translation vendor asked for "the SRT." Making one by hand means transcribing speech and hand-timing cues — hours of work for a file measured in kilobytes.
Castmagic generates the SRT from your media directly. Upload audio or video (or paste a link), let transcription run, and export a standards-compliant SubRip file with cues timed from word-level timestamps. Need changes? Edit the transcript and re-export — the timing recalculates automatically.
What an SRT file actually is
SubRip Text is the simplest subtitle format in use: a numbered list of cues, each with a start time, end time (HH:MM:SS,milliseconds), and the text spoken in that window. Plain text, no styling, readable in any editor — which is exactly why every video tool, platform, and player accepts it.
What makes a generated SRT good
Three things: transcription accuracy (wrong words are worse in captions than anywhere else), cue timing (text must appear when the words are spoken, not roughly nearby), and cue length (more than two lines on screen and viewers fall behind). Castmagic handles all three — speech-model accuracy with custom vocabulary, word-level timing for cue boundaries, and automatic cue splitting at roughly 15 words / four seconds.
SRT vs. VTT — which one do you need?
SRT for video editors, YouTube uploads, broadcast deliverables, and older players. VTT (WebVTT) for HTML5 video and modern web players. They carry the same content with slightly different syntax — and Castmagic exports both from the same transcript, so picking wrong costs you one click, not a redo.
Generate once, reuse everywhere
The transcript behind your SRT also exports as plain text, PDF, Word, and CSV — and feeds AI presets for summaries, descriptions, and social copy. The subtitle file is one output of the upload, not the only one.

Drag your audio or video file into the uploader above, or paste a link if it lives online (YouTube, a podcast feed, cloud storage). Common audio and video formats are all supported.
Castmagic transcribes it
Transcription starts immediately — 60+ languages with auto-detect, speaker labels, and word-level timestamps. An hour of audio typically processes in 3-5 minutes.
Review and polish the transcript
Open the transcript in the editor: rename speakers, fix any terms, and add custom spellings so brand names and jargon come out right on every future upload.

Frequently Asked Questions
Last updated June 2026 by the Castmagic team
How do I convert an audio or video file to SRT?
Upload the audio or video file to Castmagic (or paste a link to it), wait a few minutes for transcription, then choose SRT from the download menu. You'll get a numbered SubRip subtitle file with exact cue timing, ready for any video editor or player.
How accurate is the transcription?
Castmagic uses state-of-the-art speech models with support for 60+ languages, automatic language detection, and speaker labeling. Clear single-speaker audio typically transcribes well above 95% accuracy, and a custom-vocabulary list keeps brand names, product names, and industry jargon spelled correctly.
What formats can I download besides SRT?
Every transcript exports to six formats from the same menu: plain text (TXT), SubRip subtitles (SRT), WebVTT captions (VTT), a formatted PDF document, an editable Word document (DOCX), and a structured spreadsheet (CSV) with per-utterance speakers and timings.
Is this free to use?
Castmagic offers a free tier so you can convert a audio file and try the full workflow. Volume use — multiple files per week, longer recordings, and AI-generated content output — is available on paid plans.
Does the generator work from both audio and video?
Yes — upload an MP3, WAV, or M4A, or a video file like MP4 or MOV, or paste a link. The SRT generates from the speech either way.
Can I edit the subtitles before downloading?
Yes — fix terms, rename speakers, and set custom spellings in the transcript editor. The exported SRT reflects every correction, with timing preserved.
Is the generated file standard SubRip?
Yes — numbered cues with HH:MM:SS,mmm timing, compatible with YouTube, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, VLC, and anything else that reads SRT.
