MP4 to SRT

Writing subtitles by hand is double work: first you transcribe what's said, then you fight with timing — sliding cue boundaries around until the text matches the speech. For an hour-long video that's an afternoon gone, and the result is only as good as your patience.

Castmagic generates the SRT directly from the MP4. The transcription engine tracks word-level timing, so each subtitle cue starts and ends exactly where the speech does. Cues are kept readable — capped around 15 words and four seconds each — and the file drops straight into YouTube, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, or any player that reads SubRip.

Why SRT is still the subtitle workhorse

SRT (SubRip) is the plainest subtitle format there is — numbered cues, start and end times, text — and that simplicity is why everything supports it: video editors, social platforms, YouTube, broadcast workflows, VLC. If you can only ship one caption file with a video, SRT is the one.

Timing accuracy is the whole game

A subtitle file with sloppy timing is worse than none — viewers read ahead of the speech or trail behind it. Because Castmagic timestamps every word during transcription, cue boundaries land on the actual speech, not on guesses. Long sentences split into readable chunks instead of triple-line walls of text.

Edit before you export

Captions amplify any transcription error, so the editor matters: fix a term once, set custom spellings for names that recur across your videos, and rename speaker labels if you're including them. Then export — the SRT reflects exactly what you approved.
